BureauDeChange.net

Some online currency calculators are for information purposes only. Some exist to assist people that Play the Spot Market (or to try and show people that don't yet trade forex how simple it could be), but BureauDeChange.net does not fall into either of those two categories.

BureauDeChange.net  is one of a small, but growing number of online sites that offer actual purchase of foreign currency – Notes or traveller's cheques.

This is how it works:

Imagine you were going on holiday to Spain and you needed some Euro. You come to BureauDeChange.net to find out what the exchange rate is.

Unlike most other online exchange rate calculators, you cannot choose which currency you convert FROM. That currency is always set to pounds. It is fixed.

For our purposes this is OK because we only want to convert from pounds to Euro for that Spanish holiday.

The topmost box asks you to make a selection: NOTES or TC – do you want actual foreign currency Notes, or would you like foreign currency Traveller's Cheques. As you may be aware from past travels there is a subtle difference in the exchange rate for each of those options.

You choose Notes as cash will suit you better.

The next box is titled “please select the product you wish to purchase”. Most other currency converters would call this box “Select the currency you wish to convert to” or some such, but the title of this box reinforces the difference here: You are actually buying the currency in a physically real form.

The choices available cover all kinds of currency. 43 currencies in total covering significantly more countries, as some like the USD and Euro can be used in many places, both as legal tender, and as a strong foreign currency.

You select Euro. Immediately the box called “Exchange Rate” (below the current box) is filled with the Euro to Pound exchange rate. E.g. if the current exchange rate is €1.50 Euro to the pound, that box will say 1.500.

Enter the amount that you want to take on holiday in pounds into the “Enter Amount” box. So if you were planning on taking £400 worth of Euro to Spain then enter the amount 400 in this box. (Do not enter the amount with the £ sign – in this case don't put in £400).

Immediately the amount that this is worth in Euro is displayed in the “Amount you will Receive” box. It is important to note that this figure is converted at a retail rate – that is to say that since you are buying a foreign currency from BureauDeChange.net, this is what they deem your £400 to be worth in Euro. You may be able to get a better exchange rate elsewhere.

If you click on the green “continue” button underneath, you will be asked for your name and address; asked to confirm the amount you wish to buy; then your credit/ debit card details and lastly to confirm your order.

If you say 'yes' and you have placed your order before 12:30 on any given day you will receive your Foreign notes or traveller's cheques by 13:30 the next day.

A lot of currency exchange calculators are useful for information purposes. This one is different because it is not useful, it is practical: You can actually USE it to physically get hold of the foreign currency. While other online calculators may provide you with knowledge or data, this one will tell you straight how much foreign currency cash you can have in your hand tomorrow.
