The website itself offers none of the actual currency trading offered by some sites. This is a simple currency conversion site, with relevant news articles to keep visitors abreast of the current issues.
Go currency converter:
A nice touch missing from many other currency conversion sites, Gocurrency allows you to add their currency converter to your site, so that their currency conversion tool can appear on your web pages.
This is one of the most simple currency converters you'll ever see: put in the amount that you wish to convert (without any currency symbol, such as $, just the amount only) into the box marked “amount”. Leave the amount blank if you just want the general exchange rate between any two currencies.
Then select the currency you would like to convert from using the “From” drop-down list and the currency you'd like to convert to using the “To” drop-down list.
Almost every one of them comes with their country designation (e.g. US dollar) but none of them appear with their 3 letter international symbol (e.g.USD)
If you choose a conversion from, e.g. Chinese Yuan to Suriname Dollar, you will get the current exchange rate, but not the inverse rate. I.e. There is a “cross rate” result on the same page, but it is not performed for the amount you have entered. I.e. if you want to know the inverse rate as well, Suriname Dollar to Chinese Yuan, you have to perform a separate search if you want to know how a specific amount converts.
There is a nice graph that shows how the currencies have moved relative to each other stretching back for the last five weeks or so, which is good for showing current trends. This graph is really good.
However the “Historic Graph” facility was less than perfect. You can make a historic graph by going back to the currency converter. Enter the same details, but this time select “Historic” Instead of Convert, and it will output a graph that shows year-to-date movement.
In reality a graph of numerical data has to have a clearly defined X and Y axis in order to be of any real use. The X axis was fine as it displayed the months of the year. The Y axis, was completely unmarked, which meant that the bars depicting the up and down movements of the currencies in question could just as easily have been drawn freehand.. Without the necessary scale of the Y axis, the graph is essentially useless as a reference tool.
This short-coming was highlighted all the more by the raw data that made the graph being published underneath (and it appears to 5 decimal places). At least it means that you can recreate the graph yourself using a spreadsheet.
However, there is the ability to easily check the cross-rate. If you simply click on the link that says invert target/base you can see the other side of the transaction.
All in all the simplicity of the site and the conversion tool is appealing, and it is easy to use. 4 stars
