Travelex

Your first impression on getting to travel ex must be: “this is a great site.” It has resources that cater exceptionally well to currency conversion needed by people that have to travel.

There are an invaluable series of services that anyone that has to buy foreign currency would be delighted with:

Buy back plus – this is a service that is unbelievable: In order to encourage you to buy all your foreign currency from Travelex they will buy back however much you have left over at the same rate you paid for a flat fee of £3.50!

You can order all the currency that you could possibly need and be sure that you won't get stung if the exchange rate goes against you because Travelex are going to buy it back at the same price! (If the exchange rate goes in your favour, you could always take the remainder elsewhere too).

Using the “travel money online” feature you can order the currency you want to use on your travels and arrange to pick it up at the airport on the day you travel. This means that you can fix the exchange rate months in advance; that you can collect the cash at the airport, so there is no need for a separate trip to a bureau de change – just pick it up on your way.

They provide a whole welter of associate services for individuals – up to and including vat reclaims for non EU residents – and for corporations from corporate cards to arranging airport meeting rooms!

When using the actual currency converter on this page http://www.travelex.co.uk/personal/converter.asp
it is important to realise that the results refer to the buying price for cash – i.e. for actually buying bank notes from Travelex in whichever foreign currency you have chosen.

Using the currency conversion tool is exceptionally simple.

All the currency names in the from and to boxes appear in English and with their full country name included (e.g. Thailand Baht instead of Thai Baht) – however, none of the international, 3 letter currency codes are listed, and the all the symbols (e.g. £/$/€) are absent.

Start by selecting the currency that you want to convert “from” from the drop down list labeled “from”.

Next enter the amount of that currency you wish to convert in the box labeled “Amount” – e.g. if you had selected UK POUNDS as your currency to convert “from”, entering 5000 in the “Amount” box will allow you to convert £5,000 pounds sterling.

Finally select the currency that you wish to convert “to” from the drop down list of that name and click on the button marked “convert”.

The result is a small table that shows the date, the rate used, the start currency amount and the end currency amount.

No cross rates are listed.

No precious metals etc. are listed on this site as it deals with the actual physical “paper money”; notes and bills as opposed to inter bank credits. This is a serious and highly useful currency conversion site for travelers. The converter is very easy to use and the site has a wide range of very useful features that can both help you and save you money.
