Summary Of Currency Markets For March 7th – March 11th 2011

US dollar has an interesting time against the Japanese yen. This was a rocky road as well, and perhaps Friday’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan had an effect too. The rate dipped from 82.847 to 82.218.

We lost ground against the US dollar last time, finally finishing the week off on 1.6090. Could we improve on that now?

Our first stop is the US dollar, where we had a good week last time, ending on 1.6232. We dipped a tiny amount on the first day, but then we fell back to 1.6157 the day after. Did this mean we were in for a bad week?

We had a mediocre week against the US dollar last time, finishing on 1.5991 as a result. But this week would be better, as we found out by upping things to 1.6000 as soon as Monday was over. We got better and better as the week went on as well, eventually finishing on 1.6232.

By the end of Monday evening we had improved that to 1.6130, but then it was downhill all the way for the remainder of the week. We gradually slipped back a little day after day until we finished the week against the US dollar on 1.5991.

Last time we finished the week against the US dollar on 1.5925. The month of January would end slightly lower on 1.5904, but February would bring us into much better shape. The high point of the week was just two days later as we achieved a rate of 1.6202, but even though we slipped back after that we still achieved a good result.

1.5939 was the last figure we had available for the British pound, after a reasonable week last time. There was little change the first day of the new week, but then we dipped down to 1.5772. Fortunately there was better news in store for the rest of the week, as we improved and managed to get back to 1.5925.

The pound had an excellent week against the US dollar last week, climbing up to an impressive 1.5850 by the time the week was over. It capitalised on that by the time the 19th came along, as it had gone up still further to 1.6015 by then.

The last rate in 2010 for the pound versus the US dollar was 1.5523. And although we dropped to 1.5497 on the first trading day of 2011, we made up for it the following day when we improved to 1.5628. Unfortunately that would be the best we could achieve because we slipped back the remainder of the week.
